Matilda and Tuuli continue training in Spain
MA Sailing team windsurfers Matilda and Tuuli continue training in Cádiz, Spain. The first regatta for them in this new olympic windsurfing class will be Andalucian Olympic sailing Week later this month.
Laser 4.7 is coming more popular also in other Nordic countries
Ex. top optimist sailors from Denmark and Sweden are participating in International Dubai junior regatta in Laser 4.7 class. Race results can be found here. Finnish sailors have been active and very succesfull in this youth class for past four years. More information about Laser 4.7(in finnish) can be found from Finnish Laser Association´s home page.
Tuula Tenkanen sailing Laser 4.7 in Spain
Laser 4.7 is an excellent class for youngsters graduating from optimist. Laser 4.7 is really popular especially in Southern and Central European countries. Big sailing countries like Great Britain and Spain are strongly supporting and promoting this class.
In Finland Laser 4.7 is the second biggest youth class after optimist!(according number of sailors under 18 in class or national championships 2005).
MA Sailing school and MA Sailing Academy will arrange open training camps and sailing courses for youngsters interested in Laser 4.7 sailing in Helsinki, Murcia and Turku.
The next open training camp is in Spain on February(fully booked), but there are still places available on the next camp in Spain on March.
Next season´s first open training camp in Finland for Laser sailors will be arranged
5.-7.5.2006. MA Sailing team members will also participate in this training weekend and it´s a great possibility to all the other Laser sailors to train with our team. MA Laser coaches on these training camps are former top Laser competitor Thomas Hacklin and two times olympic sailor and professional coach Minna Aalto.

In laser radial class Pierre Angelo Collura was 3rd overall and 1st in the under 17 category. Mattias Lindfors was 32nd overall and 7th in the under 17. Tuula Tenkanen won the 4.7 female class, Salla Paajanen was 7th, Heidi Tenkanen 11th and Marika Fallenius 14th. Miikka Paajanen was 10th in the 4.7 male class. Congratulations to all team members! Three starts were sailed on the last day of the regatta on 31.12. in a cold weather and winds between 12 to 18 knots. Heidi Tenkanen finished with positions 5, 3 and 4 and was 4th overall and best girl in the final results. Miikka Paajanen was in 7th position in the overall results. Tuula Tenkanen finished 11th and second girl, which ensured her the win of the girls' EuroCup series in Laser 4.7 in 2005. Salla Paajanen finished 31st and Marika Fallenius 32nd. Henri Fallenius finished 44th in the Optimist class after getting a second yellow flag.

In Optimist class Henri Fallenius is on 26th place after five races. Today he had one excellent race finishing 9th among 101 competitors. After yesterday´s survival conditions today the wind was moderate( 12-16 knots) and all of our sailors had a good feeling and especially girls were able to better their overall positions. Miikka continued good sailing also today and despite of capsizing in one of the races he is still on excellent 5th place overall.

Excellent first race for Miikka Paajanen who finished 5th among 39 competitors in Laser 4.7 class. The wind was extremely strong(30 knots and even more in the gusts). Tuula and Heidi were able to sail the race course and they did well among female competitors. Both Salla and Marika had some problems and were not able to finish today´s only race. Henri finished first race 27th in Optimist class, but got DNF in the second race.

MA Sailing team is well presented in this seasons last Laser Europa Cup regatta in Hvar, Croatia. In Optimist class Henri Fallenius is representing Finland among 104 optimist sailors from 5 different countries. In Laser there are alltogether 113 sailors from 12 countries. All the Finnish Laser sailors are participating in Laser 4.7 class.
Pierre Angelo Collura was named to "Young talents program" by Finnish Olympic Committee.
MA Sailing team sailor Pierre Angelo Collura(LPS) is one of four sailors named to this program. Pierre was in "Young talents group" already this year and he will be in this group for the next two years 2006-2007. More information in Finnish here. This season was again very succesful for Pierre: Bronze medal in Finnish Laser standard Championships(after Roope Suomalainen and Jyrki Taiminen), 8th place in ISAF Youth World Championships in Korea(Laser standard) and 12th place in Laser Radial Youth World Championships in Brazil. Concept2 indoor rowing event 21.12.2005 at Helsingin Soutustadion
went well and ma sailing team members got valuable advice in the right rowing technique from Marita. Thank you for Tuomas and Marita for arranging this training session! Team members Annina, Heidi, Marika, Matilda, Tuula, Tuuli and Mattias had a good training session. It is expected that the team´s rowing results in 2000 meters will be better in the future because of improved technique and hard training. Now the top results are 7,29,9(boys LWT, Mattias) and 8,03,3(women HWT, Tuuli). Also team supporters Calle and Tuomas and team coach Minna have been training with Concept2 indoor rowing machine lately.(27.12.2005)

Blair Mclay, NZL is the new Laser Radial Youth World Champion!
This years Championship was really challenging because of the strong wind and big waves. Only 16 year old Pierre and Mattias sailed a great regatta finishing 12th and 28th among mainly older competitors. There were all together 103 competitors from 26 countries. In sub17 category Pierre was 2nd and Mattias 9th among 38 youngsters.
Congratulations to Pierre and Mattias from the whole MA sailing team!
This night our sailors will enjoy the Brazilian night and prize giving ceremony and tomorrow they will fly back home via Lissabon.

The last two races of the finals will be sailed today. Both Frederico Melo(POR) and Blair Mclay(NZL) have great chances to win the title. Pierre and Mattias had an difficult day yesterday, but so did many other sailors too in the tough competition in the gold fleet. In under17 category there are 38 competitors and Pierre and Mattias are doing well among the younger sailors. Pierre is now 2nd and Mattias 7th.

There are four more races scheduled in the Laser Radial Youth World´s in Fortaleza, Brazil. Both finnish sailors are in the gold fleet battling for the top places in the finals. Pierre is now 2nd in under17 category and Mattias 7th. Pierre has been very constant during the whole regatta and his worst race has been so far 8th place! The best result in the qualifiers was 2nd. Mattias has finished once third and five times in top 15.
Pierre started sailing Laser during the Christmas holidays 2002 and he won Laser Radial national title already in autumn 2003. Mattias was sailing first time Laser Radial in the same regatta. After trying also double handed dinghy and windsurfing he decided to start training with Laser Radial in February 2004, when he participated in MA Sailing´s training camp in Murcia, Spain.
Earlier this year Pierre won bronze medal in Finnish National Championships in Laser standard and Mattias did the same in Laser Radial class. Pierre was the best youth under19 in standard and Mattias was the best in the same category in Radial.
After the World´s both sailors will have a good rest after the long season(first training camp this year was Andora, Italy in the beginnig of January). In January 2006 Mattias will also have time to practice his other sport bandy and then in February he starts the new sailing season in Mar Menor, Murcia.

The second day of racing in the Laser Radial Youth World´s was again windy. "It was blowing 20 knots constantly and the waves were huge" said coach Alp Alpagut. Pierre was unhappy with his starts, but he was able to recover during the race because of his excellent boat speed. Mattias had a very good upwind boat speed, but he lost a bit on reaches and made also some mistakes in the upwind strategy. Both sailors were also forced to do penalty turns, because they touched the mark. "Yesterday´s sailing was really physical" adds Alp and despite of some mistakes our sailors were able to make quite good results. Pierre finished 8th and 6th and Mattias was two times 11th. Both ma sailing team sailors started in the same fleet.
The regatta has been dominated so far by Frederico Melo, POR and Blair McLay, NZL. These sailors are already 18-years old and have been racing in Radial Youth World´s since 2003. Blair was alredy 6th on 2003 Radial Youth World´s and became second in under 17 category. Pierre finished last year 21st in Youth World´s and won gold medal in under 17 category. Mattias is now participating first time Radial Youth World´s, but he was sailing Laser 4.7 World´s 2004 finishing 56th out of 279 sailors!

There are sailors from 26 countries and in the top ten all the sailors are from different nations. The medal trio from the 2005 Laser Radial Youth Europeans is also in Brazil. European Champion Ivan Taritas, CRO is now on 6th place, Igor Lisovenko, RUS who became second in EC is now 9th and EC bronze medal winner John Beatty, GBR is at a moment on 18th place.

Pierre Angelo Collura is 7th and Mattias Lindfors 23rd after two races in the Laser Radial Youth World´s in Brazil. Both sailors are only 16 years old and they compete as well in sub 17 category. In this category Pierre is leading and Mattias is 7th after the first day of racing in the strong wind and big waves. The Laser radial Youth World championship is open for sailors under 19. There are 102 competitors participating and the qualifiers continue until thursday.

Heidi Tenkanen is the new European Champion in laser 4.7 under 15 girls! In the laser 4.7 European Championships sailed in Izola, Slovenia, Heidi was the first in under 15 class and 15th in girls overall. Tuula Tenkanen was 6th in the girls fleet, with a very good and consistent series. Marika Fallenius was 20th and Salla Paajanen 38th in girls. Miikka Paajanen finished 33rd in boys' gold fleet. After 3 days of light wind and 9 races Helsinki regatta was completed. In Laser Standard Mattias was able to keep the second position after Jonas Krogell from ESF, third came Kim Weber, chairman of Finnish Laser Association. In Radial same changes occurred during last day. Valtteri was able to take overall second place before Niko, and Peik finished fourth. In 4.7 Tuula was convincing and took the first place before Heidi and Marika. Overall the team scored good results and it was a good light wind training competition for our team members. Next week our team is competing in Hanko Regatta and after that 4.7 team is leaving for EC in Slovenia, when Radial guys stay in Finland training for coming EC in Croatia in August. (3.7.2005)
MA Sailing Team sailor Pierre Angelo Collura (LPS) won the ISAF Youth world´s qualification regatta. All the best Laser sailors from Finland participated in this regatta. Roope Suomalainen (ISAF world ranking 13.) won the regatta and Fredrik Westman was second only one point behind Roope. Senior sailor Jonas Krogell was third and only 15-year old Pierre Angelo Collura finished fourth beating clearly our last year ISAF youth world´s representative Matti Haapiainen. Matti is already too old to participate in Youth World´s. Second in the youth qualification was Oscar Dannström.
MA Sailing Team had also success in smaller Laser classes. In Radials Peik Nordström (ÖNS) was second behind experienced Martin Baltscheffky and Antti Nieminen (TPS) was third.
In the 4.7 class Tuula Tenkanen took a clear win and was sailing skillfully in strong winds. Tuula is 14 years old and weights only 52 kg and her example shows that also lightweight youngsters can sail Laser 4.7 in heavy air. "It was beautiful to see her battling equally against our best Radial sailors in strong winds on saturday", says team manager and coach Minna Aalto. "Tuula has been training hard during the winter and the results of well done work can be seen already" adds Minna. Second in the Laser 4.7 class was Tuula´s younger sister Heidi and third Marika Fallenius. All girls are members of MA Sailing Team and their club is ESF. (23.6.2005).
